Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was one of Finland’s most important designers of all time, whose favorite material was glass. The i glassware collection that he designed for Iittala in 1956 consisted of everyday utility objects, tumblers and bottles, with special attention to their forms and colors.

Sarpaneva and the engineering expert Keijo Laitinen created completely new colors broken with grey for the i-collection, including lilac, blue, green and smoke glass. In a sense, Timo Sarpaneva brought glass art to the living-rooms of all Finns. The Iittala glassworks’ iconic i logo was also designed by him.
